CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES

AWANA Ministry - Sue Broaddus (576-2025)  Mrs. Broaddus writes: "I have been involved in this ministry for 16 years, and to me, no other compares, when it comes to teaching the Word of God to children.  We start our evenings saying the pledge to the AWANA flag.  This pledge states the facts very clearly "reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him."  We have reached many children in Franklin County, many who have never attended church at all, and to see the changes in their lives is a blessing to behold.  Teaching a child that Christ loves them and then helping them to memorize His word, is what it is all about."

Children's Camp - Cindy Mink (489-4046)  This is a 3-4 day camp for kids who have completed grades 3-6.  Adults who serve fill positions as counselors, music, recreation, seminar and art & crafts leaders.  Camp is a significant time of spiritual discovery and growth.  This year's camp is scheduled for August 13-16.

Children's Church - Katie Bennett (483-0789)  Meets during the 11:00am service with programs designed for three different age groups: 2 and 3 years old, 4 and 5 years old, and 6 to 8 years old.

Pre-School Ministry - Sunday School - 9:45-11:00am - Betty Hunley (483-0395), Worship Services - Julie Hunley (489-5827)  We are a home church mission to take care of our children.  Ages: Babies-Kindergarten.  To have the best care, we need more help.  Our goal is to have the most exceptional pre-school department ever.  The only way we can have this is to be our pre-school department and do it together, focusing on the same goal.  Requirement to help: a love for children!

Vacation Bible School - Trina Boitnott (334-1667)  Vacation Bible School is an outreach ministry designed to teach and share the gospel of Christ to children of all ages.  VBS is scheduled in July during the evening hours.

MUSIC MINISTRIES

Coordinator - Ken Richardson (483-9507)

Adult Choir  This is the main choir for morning worship.  It is open to any adult.  Previous experience helpful, but not required.  No audition is necessary.  Rehearsals are held each Wednesday evening from 6:45-8:30pm.  Members can sing at the 8:30 worship service, the 11:00 worship service or both.

Praise Team  This is a small ensemble that sings praise and worship choruses and hymns for our Sunday evening worship and aids in the 11:00 worship service.  A solo quality voice and the ability to read music are very helpful to someone wishing to be a part of this group.

Orchestra  This group accompanies the choir and congregation in weekly worship services and special musical programs.  The orchestra also plays concerts and special songs in worship services.  It is open to anyone who plays a standard orchestral instrument at any level.  Our players range in age from 8 to 62.  Some had played in grade school and not played for more than 20 years, started again and are doing well.  Some children have been playing for little more than a year and are able to contribute.  The orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6-7:00pm.

English Handbell Ringers  This 10-15 member group meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm.  Dependability and music reading ability are the only pre-requisites.

Audio Room  Audio/visual technicians operate the sound system for our worship services and any special meetings.  Training is given in operating audio and visual equipment.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES

Apartment Outreach - Steve Smith (276-681-6103)  This is a weekly outreach to Candlewood Apartments - door-to-door to bring Christ to them in a practical way with words of hope and encouragement.

GO Teams - Hoyt Griffith (334-5393)  The GO Outreach is a ministry structured so everyone can participate in a way best suited for them.  Opportunities include: writing letters to newcomers, visiting the homebound, handing out the Jesus Video, making phone calls, reaching out to the apartment complexes, ministering to the elderly, or visiting prospects in their homes.  GO even provides for support areas such as prayer of child care.  Each area is vital in our efforts to reach our community for Christ.  Come and join us!

Helping Hands - Doyle Hamilton (483-8211)  As the name implies, we are helping hands mostly to elderly or disabled who are unable to hire someone to do usually small maintenance type problems (repair broken windows, replace a porch, mow a yard, clean a house/yard, etc.).  Needs are filtered through the church office.  If you have a particular skill or are a handy person, you can be a helper in this ministry.

Hispanic Ministry - Helping the Hispanics in our area with spiritual and material needs.

Janice's Gang - Janice B. Holland (483-2766)  We visit patients at the local Trinity Mission nursing home on the GO team night each third Thursday of the month.  We take them treats, Bible tracts, Jesus videos, fruit, etc., and visit some patients on a regular monthly basis.  Two or three times a year we make a special effort to deliver extra gift packages containing balloons, toiletry items, hand lotions, etc. to all 163 residents.

Missions - Marie Flora (483-1918)  The heart of the local church is missions.  Franklin Heights Baptist Church was begun as a mission effort.  We believe our call from God is to go into all the world to share Christ.  We are to do that by going, giving and praying.  Missions are what we do and who we are!

Samaritan's Purse - Laura Walker (483-8576)  Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham that collects gift-filled shoe boxes and delivers them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in desperate situations around the world.  These shoe boxes open doors for presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ by working in and through local churches, offering children's literature and follow-up programs.  This project provides a simple way for children and teenagers to join adults in sharing the joy of giving to children around the world at Christmas.

SERVICE MINISTRIES

Baptism - Dean and Angie Blankenship (483-5818)  This group helps assist those who are following our Lord Jesus Christ during the baptismal ceremony.  Preparation for the evening and assistance during the service are vital parts that make the whole service a true celebration.

Greeters - William Broaddus (576-2025)  Mr. Broaddus writes: "The greeter, I feel, is a very important part of reaching out for the Lord.  Let me tell you why I feel this way.  Twenty seven years ago Sue and I, along with our two small children, were visiting churches trying to find a place to be fed God's word.  A few churches we walked out of because when we got there we didn't know where to go and felt awkward so we just left without ever attending.  When we first got out of our car in the Franklin Heights Baptist Church parking lot, we were met by the effervescent Bill Walker Sr.  He took us under his wing and made us feel welcome and escorted us to our proper classes.  In order to become a part, we must first have a good start and that is why effective greeting is so important."

Lay Counselors - Mary Wickstrum (484-1488 or 420-0180)  Lay counselors are part of the church to listen, disciple, and care for people God's way.  We would like to organize to be available at the church specific days and times.

Library/Media Center - Ruth Smith (483-2058)  Our church Library is open most Sundays from 10:45-11:00am.  The Library provides material for Bible Study, informational reading, and pleasure reading (fiction).  We also have children's videos and teaching videos.

Lord's Supper - Pete and Bertha Pitzer (989-8672)  This group helps assist our Pastor by preparing the needed supplies for each tome of Communion.  They make sure all equipment is properly taken care of and stored.

Office Support - Frances Atkins (483-9507)  Volunteers are needed who would be willing to come in specific days to help with various office duties or special assignments as they arise.

Social - Janice B. Holland (483-2766)  We plan the Senior Banquet, serve meals at special occasions under the direction of our pastors such as the meal for the kickoff of the 40 Days of Purpose, oversee the fifth Sunday night fellowship meals, and the annual picnic in July.

Ushers - Bobby Snyder (721-4230), Glenn Gallimore (483-1223)  Ushers are needed for all services to greet attendees, help with seating if necessary, receive offerings and collect other information from the congregation, distribute literature during services as required, and monitor exits during the services.  Ushers need to be friendly and are required to wear ties and jackets.  One annual meeting is scheduled with the pastor.
