OUR CALL×sJoe
It was over a year after Susie came back from Russia that I talked to her indicating that the Lord was speaking to me about going in the "ministry" in a more meaningful way. The Lord had also been speaking to her prior to this time. It was a time of rejoicing, even though at the time we had no idea of where we were being called to go or in what capacity.
Shortly afterwards we heard of an opportunity. It was sent to us by a friend in the Washington DC area. Susie read the letter first and she was so excited waiting for me to come home from work. The potential of working for the Lord in Germany seemed like a very real possibility. We prayed about it and the excitement grew greater to do God’s work.
Our daughter, Amy, was in her mid-teens at the time and we needed to have her join us in our work. We let her know of our interest in going to the Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany. She has been an eager participant every since. Our son, Scott, also seems very happy with this ministry.
Black Forest Academy had nine mission sending agencies at that time, they now have significantly more that help to fill the staff and faculty needs of the school. We sent a letter of introduction to all nine, knowing that there would be some definite "closed doors." We also prayed specifically that someone would call us on the telephone from the mission that the Lord wanted for us. Although we did not talk on the telephone with U.F.M., we did receive a letter stating what busy people we must be and that they had tried repeatedly to call us. God answered our prayer specifically.
I am so thankful that God has spoken to our hearts. It is so reassuring to my heart to know that when God speaks, I need to be obedient.
