Ministering to orphans involves meeting their physical needs and providing opportunities for them to understand in a real sense the love of God through Jesus Christ. We believe that it is important to first meet immediate physical needs, but the most effective way to minister to orphans in the long term is for them to be adopted into a Christian home. When this happens, the child is no longer an orphan, and he or she enters into a family environment where ongoing physical needs will be met and he or she will be “brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
It is our vision that Franklin Heights Baptist Church would become a place where Christian couples would come to understand that adoption is not a second best, but is often God’s first choice in how he grows families and provides for the needs of children. We envision our church as a resource providing information, counseling, mentoring, and financial support for Christian families pursuing both domestic and international adoptions. We would also like this ministry to support short term mission trips to orphanages.
Small grants may be available for families in the final stages of adoption. Contact us at orphancare@franklinheights.org for more information.
